Privacy policy

What personal information we collect, why we use it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who we are

In The Business Ltd (company number 17302115) runs inthebusiness.club, the What’s Your Step One? podcast and In The Business Media. We decide how your information is used, which makes us the “controller” under UK data protection law.

If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email harrisonturner@inthebusiness.club.

What we collect

  • When you get in touch: through our enquiry forms (run by Typeform), by email, phone or social media. This is usually your name, contact details, your business and anything you tell us about your project.
  • When we work with you: the details we need to plan and deliver the work, invoices and payment records, and the footage, photos and audio we record with you.
  • If you’re a podcast guest: your name, background and contact details, and the recording itself.
  • When you visit this website: our host, Vercel, keeps short technical logs (such as your IP address and browser) to keep the site running and secure. We also count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which tells us which pages are viewed, roughly which country visitors are in and what kind of device they use, and measure how quickly pages load with Vercel Speed Insights. Neither uses cookies or identifies you. We don’t use advertising tracking.

Why we use it

  • To reply to you and give you a quote, because you asked us to (steps before a contract).
  • To deliver the work we’ve agreed with you (contract).
  • To run the business, keep records, keep the website secure and see how the website is used so we can improve it (our legitimate interests).
  • To meet tax and accounting rules (legal obligation).

Footage and recordings you appear in are published in line with what we agreed with you when we filmed.

Who we share it with

We never sell your information. We use a small number of services to run the business: Typeform (enquiry forms), Vercel (website hosting and visitor statistics), Zoho (email), and the platforms we publish content on, such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn. We may also share records with professional advisers such as an accountant.

Some of these services are based outside the UK. Where that’s the case, your information is protected by the safeguards UK law requires.

Cookies

This website doesn’t use cookies for analytics or advertising, which is why there’s no cookie banner. Our visitor statistics and page speed measurements (Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights) work without cookies and without storing anything on your device. Two other things to know:

  • Videos play from YouTube. They only load when you press play, using YouTube’s privacy enhanced mode. Once a video plays, YouTube may store information on your device.
  • Our enquiry forms open on Typeform, which sets its own cookies. Typeform’s privacy policy explains how.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that don’t lead to work: up to 2 years.
  • Client, invoice and payment records: 6 years after the end of the financial year they relate to, as tax rules require.
  • Published content: for as long as we agreed with you.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, stop using it, or send it to you or someone else in a reusable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

To do any of this, email harrisonturner@inthebusiness.club. We’ll reply within one month.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Changes to this policy

If anything changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
